CLASSIC CARS IN LA JOLLA
It’s that time of year again. The Classic of classic cars make their way to the La Jolla Cove at Scripps Park on Coast Blvd. on Sunday, April 3rd for the 7th Annual Motor Car Classic. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door.
See everything from the 1914 Rolls Royce in the Horseless Carriage division, to the muscle cars of the 60’s, the British Sports cars, and American Sports cars and German cars. Great fun for the entire family…and the weather forecasts….sunny and warm.
WEEKEND TO DO’S IN SAN DIEGO
Here are three activities you can do this weekend in San Diego.
BULL DOG BIKE RACE, Camp Pendleton – March 19th
THE UNDY 5000 FAMILY RUN/WALK – DE ANZA COVE – MISSION BAY – Begin registration at 6:30am. Check road closures after 7am.
YOUTH FITNESS EXPO – BALBOA PARK (FREE!!) Begins at 1:00 in Balboa Park.
BRIDGING THE CITY WITH THE NEW PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
The new Pedestrian Bridge is now open in downtown San Diego next to Petco Park.
At a cost of a whopping $26+ million, it’s now open for walkers. Make it safely across Harbor Drive from East Village or Petco Park to The Hilton.
This is a one of a kind structure with its 530 feet, curved designed and self-anchored suspension bridge. Construction broke ground in October, 2008 and was supposed to take about a year to build. Delays and redesign, as well as requirements delayed it’s opening.
It’s open for walkers, it’s unique, and it adds to our city’s development.
San Diego is a fun walking city, with a high Walking Score, but now with the Bridge, it gives pedestrians easy (and safe) access to the Convention Center, and Seaport Village.
ORGANIC CUPCAKES?
I have raved about CUPS in La Jolla 7895 Girard, but I really mean it. They call it a cupcakery…but I call it decadent, delicious, and delightful.
Michelle’s assortments include Peanut Butter Cup, Coco-Limey, Tiramisu, Chai and Creamsicle. Looking for special needs, she’s included gluten-free Lemon-Ricotta and Chocolate Flourless and well as Whole Wheat Health Nut and dairy-free chocolate. She even carries PupCups for your dog.
Known for the comfortable cupcake lounge, she also has a full-scale teaching kitchen. Check out her cooking classes HERE. A real treat.

100th ANNIVERSARY OF NAVAL AVIATION IN SAN DIEGO
LOOKING FOR SOMETHING AWESOME TO DO IN SAN DIEGO?….This is it.
The 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation celebration….the official Birthplace of Aviation.
Go hang out at The Midway in Seaport Village where you will be directly under the 100th Anniversary festivities and fabulous air show taking place from North Island in San Diego. Or even better, head to The Naval Station on North Island on Coronado to attend this FREE event.
Military aircraft, Blue Angels flying overhead, a parade over San Diego Bay, vintage car show, motorcycle jumps, and lots of entertainment, and so much more. Did I mention….it’s FREE! A great day for the entire family.
It all begins at 9:00am from North Island Naval Station.
SUMMER IN LA JOLLA…AND IT’S JANUARY?
It’s incredible to see the rest of the country either flooding from excessive rains, or in a deep freeze. Here I sit in La Jolla putting on my sunscreen, and turning on the A/C in my car.
I moved to La Jolla for two reasons. Water and Weather. We have our May Grey, and June Gloom. And this year…we even had Gloom in July, but that doesn’t rhyme. Then August, when we should expect temperatures in the 80’s, we had temperatures in the 70’s…it was overcast, cloudy and some days, cold.
But here we are, January and temps in the 70’s, sunny, warm and the perfect weather.
Here’s something fun to do in La Jolla.
The La Jolla Gliderport is a great place to watch the weather, wind and the water. The wind takes these daring flyers close to the cliffs as the up-air brings them dangerously close.
If you are visiting San Diego, or want to go someplace for lunch, try the Cliff Hanger Cafe. Enjoy a bite to eat while watching these brave souls take off in flight.
